Serving 75 million users worldwide, the company is one of the world’s leading electric companies based on installed capacity.

Strongly committed to mitigating climate change and reducing carbon emissions gradually as part of the energy transition process, Enel is one of the world’s primary clean energy generator from renewable energy sources, such as hydro, and non-conventional sources such as the sun, wind, hydrogen, among others. As a result of its ongoing work and investments to develop new technologies, the company currently serves as one of the leading smart grid operators in the world, providing digital infrastructures to enable total decarbonization by 2040 and a greater electrification of the energy matrix.

For their new offices in San José, Enel aimed to create a unique and innovative project inspired by Costa Rica’s natural beauty, to offer their employees the best possible workspace that protects and fosters their physical and mental health. This project was led by an interdisciplinary design and consulting team, integrated by Inverse Projects, S3 Ingenieros, Nework and ADAPTIVA

Its architectural design focused in capturing scenic mountain views while maximizing natural light. Organically designed paths, natural materials, textures, shapes and colors merge with the outdoor nature, and become the heart of the project.

Meticulously tucked away by a green wall, the open collaborative and work spaces are sheltered by the office entrance that offers a relaxed and inviting space that features lounge armchairs inviting visitors to sit back and enjoy its atmosphere.

To support and encourage employees’ daily physical activity, this project features a fitness room equipped with cardio and weight-training equipment. Additionally, with the aim of supporting mothers, a private and cozy maternity room was integrated into the design. Furthermore, the Quiet Room was conceived as a quiet and restorative space where staff can unwind for a few minutes from work and stress, to meditate, read, enjoy music or rest.

State-of-the-art technology was integrated into the project, including highly efficient HVAC equipment that includes two-stage air filtration and air purification through UV light to guarantee the best indoor air quality. Low or VOC-free materials and finishes were installed during construction, along with materials and finishes with low toxic and/or harmful ingredients for human health. Also, a modern UV light filtration and water treatment system was installed to provide access to high-quality purified water.

Furnishings and furniture were carefully chosen to comply with the highest standards of ergonomics and comfort. Taken together, they ensure a flexible and comfortable working space, combined with the safest possible equipment available for employees.

As an innovative project, Enel’s new offices in San José mark a milestone in the workspace segment in the country. It demonstrates Enel’s commitment to sustainability, health and well-being of its staff, safeguarding air and water quality, ergonomics, as well as thermal, acoustic and visual comfort, while encouraging an active and balanced life for all.
